Consider...

Water - Burkey or similar type water filters will filter pool, rain, and lake water to make it potable.

Food - Key hole gardens are a raised vegetable beds that compost at the same time. You can make your own or find them at places like  Vitagardens.com or Costco. Find a South Florida growing guide here

Emergency food supplies such as My Patriot Supply have emergency food kits that have a 25 year shelf life. Also, have things on hand such as canned food, dried beans, rice, jerky, and dehydrated fruits and vegetables.

Communication - If cell towers go down communication will be a challenge. Consider getting a ham radio and operating license through hamradioprep.com. There is also a free licensing class at Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center October 1st and 2nd.

West Palm Beach Amateur Radio Group meets monthly to share information.

CB radios is another option which does not require a license.
